Are you forgetting about the little guy?
Something that I come across when talking to businesses and members of the community is a common thread about the little guys being forgotten about.
As businesses grow, it seems that those little businesses and individuals are quickly forgotten about and drop off the radar.
Thinking back to when I first started this business full-time, there were businesses that I RELIED on, their pay each week was what I and my family used to survive. These businesses were my everything.
For me as a person, growing my business and its structure changing over that time didn’t mean that I treated these clients any differently, they are still my everything.
Sometimes though, as businesses grow – being personal, approachable, and helpful to small businesses stops. Their income to the business has become minimal and can be seen as no longer ‘important’.
When this client needs help, the person who now reads the emails doesn’t know the history of the client. They see the income from them, follow the policies, and try to ‘help’ them as quickly as possible.
A prime example – A new software is introduced, large clients are contacted for a face-to-face or video conference to go through the new systems, show them the benefits, etc. The medium businesses are sent an email and can arrange a phone call if needed, and the small businesses are sent an email with a user guide attached.
The big guys have additional staff and IT specialists to help them understand this. The small guy, your original client, now an older couple who doesn’t understand the new system needs to seek external help.
The moral of the story, are you forgetting about the little guy? These clients are just as important for your business as they were on day one. Their support, their word-of-mouth referrals, and social media compliments are what keep your business growing.
Remember them, and treat them well.
Thank you – Kait xx
